Trek and Camp along the banks of the Cauvery River
Imagine stepping out of your tent and seeing the silvery waters of the River Cauvery. Scan the surroundings, and you'll see lovely forests teeming with bird life. The cherry on top is trekking beside this river throughout the day.
This is not an experience that's easy to get in our country. Either you don't have such luxuries or you don't get permits.
But at Indiahikes, we are always on the lookout for treks that offer a variety of experiences or a unique experience that trekkers don’t get to experience anywhere else. The Biligundlu Cauvery River trek is a combination of both. It’s a special trek for many reasons.
Throughout the trek, you trek alongside the banks of the Cauvery River under the shade of acacia trees. At any point on the trek, you are about 100-150 metres away from the river. The uniqueness of these acacia trees is they usually grow tall, forming a canopy over your head, and the trail primarily has red soil throughout. It almost feels like nature has laid a red carpet for you to trek on!
Within the short 8 km trek, the vegetation changes from dry deciduous forests to shades of greenery. This shift is so abrupt, that you can’t help but wonder how is this even possible!
Another interesting fact is that you trek on the border of Tamil Nadu and Karnataka. The Cauvery River, which accompanies you throughout, divides the two states. While you technically trek in Tamil Nadu, Karnataka is just one river crossing away!
As you start thinking there can’t be more the trail can offer, comes the campsite where you stay for the day. It’s right on the bank of the Cauvery River! As dusk sets in, the sight of evening sunlight reflecting on the river and the birds making their way home is the one that stays with you for a long time. Akshay Kevin, who was part of the exploration, says “The tree next to the campsite is home to a wide variety of birds. Having done several treks in southern India, on that particular tree, I found at least 10 different colourful birds that I had never seen before.”
What is more exciting is that you get to experience all this just over a weekend, about 4 hours away from Bangalore. So the moment we explored the trek, we knew we had a winner. We can’t wait to let you all experience this gem.
This trek is in official partnership with the Tamil Nadu Wilderness Experiences Corporation (TNWEC).
Biligundlu Cauvery River Trek
We have always wanted trekkers to be well-informed before they go on any trek. Knowledge is the difference between a safe trek and a dangerous one. It’s also the difference between a wholesome experience and a surface experience.

The Indiahikes Spirit of Trekking
We're always ready for adventure
Trekking comes with uncertainty. Weather, terrain, and setbacks are part of the journey. We embrace them with resilience and openness—each challenge makes us stronger and more appreciative of nature's beauty.
We embrace low-noise trekking
We blend into nature, not the other way around. We avoid shouting, loud music, and noisy games. In silence, we hear birdsong, streams, and the wind—inviting peace, reflection, and a deeper connection with nature.
We protect the environment
We protect the environment by minimising waste, reusing resources, and picking up litter. We carry eco-bags, segregate waste, and inspire others to preserve trails. Sustainable trekking ensures these mountains remain beautiful for future generations.
We are self-sufficient
We carry our load as much as possible, manage our gear, and stay prepared for all situations. Self-sufficiency builds confidence, independence, and respect for fellow trekkers, support staff, and the trail itself.
We support each other
Trekking is not a solo act. We wait for each other, share burdens, and uplift teammates. By putting the group first, we build strong bonds and help everyone complete the trek joyfully.
We are fit and prepared
We train well before our treks. This helps us walk longer, handle emergencies, and contribute to the team. Fitness ensures we are never a burden and always ready to help when needed.
