Indiahikes August 2022 Photo Contest - Open To All

Theme: Contrast

Category Photo Contest Trekkers Space

By Jothiranjan

We are back with the August edition of the Indiahikes Photo Contest, which is open to all. You're welcome to participate no matter which part of the country you are in. You're welcome to share pictures from your Indiahikes treks or treks you have done on your own.

The theme for this month's open photo contest is Contrast

When we think of striking contrasts, our mind immediately goes to photographs where the photographer has played with textures, highlights, shadows, colors, clarity.

A strikingly colourful sunset or a stark silhouette against a snow-clad mountain. It could be a macro shot of a soft flower against a thorny bush. It could be a terrific play of light and shade.

Composing such shots is not easy. Timing is everything! Being at the right place at the right time, with a little bit of luck. Or it could be purely your skill as a photographer and masterful editing. That’s why, with this month's theme, we want to see how good you are at your art!

Here are the kind of photos we are looking for:

Before sending in your photos, take a look at these:

This shot, taken at the top of Mt. Chandrashila, captures a lovely contrast of colours. Notice how the sky lights up over the dark foreground. Photo by Vivek Saini

This is an example of a technically sound picture. Watch how perfectly the light falls on the lone soft cloud. The lighting also makes the grass glitter. A play of light and dark lends character to this photo of the Lidderwat campsite on the Tarsar Marsar trek. Photo by Shreenath

Here's another brilliant example of how contrast brings out the scale of mountains in the background. It's a photo from the Phulara Ridge trek taken by Nitesh Kumar.

We have another photo from the Tarsar Marsar trek. The grass in the foreground is bright, glowing in contrast to the dark mountains rising in the background. Photo by Amit Anand

Now that you have a good idea of what we're looking for, run through your archives and share your Top 5 Photographs that depict the theme Contrasts.
