Indiahikes Conducts An Intense Equipment Maintenance and Repair Training at Dehradun

A few days back 9 Indiahikes store incharge underwent a four-day equipment maintenance & repair training.

The training happened at our old Dehradun office and was conducted by Ravi Ranjan, (@bothardexplorer ) our Operations Manager.

“At Indiahikes, equipment plays a massive role in providing a safe Indiahikes experience to trekkers. These equipment take months of research & development to be finally put to use in the outdoors.

For example, the Hillman tent which we use on our treks has gone through several iterations to be suitable for a safe stay on a high-altitude trek.

We have a huge inventory of equipment like our tents.

Due to a lack of knowledge, our staff often didn’t know how to maintain or repair a specific part of the equipment. That used to put us in the cycle of buying new equipment very frequently.

In this training, our store incharge sat down to identify the life of a tent, then they worked on how can this life be sustained by maintaining the tent in a good condition.

The team members discussed past case studies where such damage-control situations occurred and then came up with an action plan for the future to prevent such situations.

We also got an advanced machine to teach them how to stitch a torn tent. It’s an extremely vital skill that goes a long way in maintaining tents.

Besides this, our major focus was on making our store in charge understand that our equipment is not just an object. They play a huge role in taking the vision of Indiahikes forward that Everyone Must Trek.” shares Ravi Ranjan.

“This training surpassed my expectations on several fronts. The first was how everybody wanted to take charge of a situation (related to damage of equipment) especially identifying a problem and solving it at the source.

I am intrigued by the level of knowledge and details the team had towards the equipment. I was also surprised to see their enthusiasm to learn a new skill!” adds Ravi.

We’re glad that our staff has understood the importance of taking responsibility for maintaining these equipment. Training like this gives us a lot of scopes to upgrade our equipment in the future.
