This June we’ve been flooded with breathtaking photographs of Hampta Pass, Buran Ghati, Roopkund and Rupin Pass among many other treks. We caught ourselves smiling at our screens while going through 500+ photos!

After culling through a drive full of photos, our judge, Vinod Krishna says, “It felt like a photo time machine transported me to the mountains.”

Our judge has picked out the top three winners. But in addition to that, we have a Trekkers’ Choice Prize!

Trek Photographer of the month

Raj Morbia – Rupin Pass

This is a beautiful frame. It shows the journey ahead and marks the trail perfectly. It has been shot while trekking and reflects the photographer’s effort in capturing this frame. Our judge says it provides a lovely contrast and the leading lines align very well in the frame. Truly a great visual experience!

First Runner Up

Chintamani – Roopkund

The bright yellow tents against the snow covered mountains definitely makes for a brilliant shot. Our judge says this frame is very well balanced and has a nice contrast.

Second Runner Up

Udaya Ravi – Rupin Pass

One sheep in the middle of the frame draws your attention to the rest of the herd. Our judge says even though the background is massive it provides a good contrast and helps draw attention to the foreground.

Trekker’s Choice Award

Aniket Telang – Roopkund

This photo captures the massiveness of the Roopkund trek. “This is a good shot and provides the viewer contrasting elements – the massive mountains and miniature humans,” says Vinod Krishna

Nominations

Pranay Saini – Buran Ghati

I can almost feel the tension in this shot. This is one of the most tricky sections of the Buran Ghati trek. Our judge says it could have been a neat photo if it was shot wide to show the contrasting elements around and the scale of the rapelling zone.

Dip Ranjan Chaterjee – Hampta Pass

The Hampta Pass trek is truly incomplete if you don’t spot these glorious horses on the way. Our judge says this one is a good wide shot. The horse in the frame is a good addition to the frame.

Saurabh Vashistha – Roopkund

Nothing like curling up in your own warmth on a breezy day huh! Our judge says the frame captures a good part of what comes along with every trek – mountains, skies & mountain dogs.

Sridhar GS – Roopkund

This photo is so symmetric! The reflection is on point. “It is a well balanced shot and the frame has a nice divide – fore, mid and background elements,” says judge Vinod Krishna

Prachi – Roopkund

Can you see those birds scattered in the sky? Our editor, Swathi says she loves the minimalist feel of the photo. Judge Vinod agrees that it is a nicely framed capture even though it breaks the rule of thirds.

Karan – Roopkund

Another classic shot borne out of playing with reflections in the puddle. This shot especially has good exposure. Our judge says he likes the colours and framing in this shot.
