Winter Trek On Snow To Dayara Bugyal: A Photo Gallery

It’s a treat to experience the Dayara Bugyal trek in winters. The setting is strikingly different from the rest of the year because the meadows are buried under soft, powdery snow.

We’ve put together a gallery just so you know what exactly we are talking about.

So go through these images and tell us in comments, do they make you want to trek in the winters?

Your trek begins from the Raithal base camp situated around 184 km from Dehradun. You easily take around 7-8 hours – driving through lovely forest and alongside Bhagrathi river – to reach this remote village. Picture by Indiahikes Trek Leader Tanmay Angre

Next day morning, as you begin your trek from Raithal to Gui, you step into a lovely forest of maple and oak trees. In winters, the forest floor is covered with snow and leaves are also drooping under the weight of snowflakes. What’s striking is, you won’t find pines here, like you usually do on other Himalayan treks. While trekking to Gui, also watch out for prominent views of Mt. Shrikanth and Gangotri 1,2,3.

As you trek further towards Barnala, you cross the treeline and enter the delightful meadow which is now buried under snow. In winter, you see miles and miles of an undulating white landscape. There is also the picturesque Barnala Tal with a pretty, pink-roofed summer house by its side. If you manage to capture it through your lens in this white, wintery setting, do share it with us so we can add it to this photo story. It’s indeed a sight to behold!

From Barnala, you start climbing to Dayara Top. Now the tree-line is far below you and you are trekking on soft, fresh snow. In deep winter, you find knee-deep snow on the Dayara Bugyal trek in the first week of December. Spend some time exploring this meadow buried under snow before descending to Chilpada.
