A magic unfolds in the Sahyadris during the rains. The meadows turn lush green, the flowers sprout everywhere and the lakes fill with sparkling clear water. Trekking in the Sahyadris during the monsoons are moments for the heart and soul.

While hundreds of trekkers head to the Sahyadri mountains near Mumbai and Pune, the trails are still uncharted. A lot more documentation is required.

Join Indiahikes this July and August to explore, document and map the trails of the Sahyadris. Volunteers are invited to be part of the exploration teams. Most explorations would be conducted during the weekends.

To sign up as a volunteer,  please register for the trail and batch you are interested in and choose one among the below mentioned roles:

1. Documenter – He/she will be making daily notes of the trek, the entore journey right from the start. The notes will be made in a pre-defined form given to you. You have to collect the trail information, make notes of how the trail is, mentioning the landmarks every 15 minutes of the trek to identify the trail route etc. The documenter is also expected to later write a trek diary, a personalized account of the trek and submit all the data collected to our back-end team.

2. Photographer – He/she will be taking the pictures of the trail and the landscapes. Will be expected to submit a selected 40 to 50 pictures of the entire trek to us. People who are good in photography may want to volunteer. You will be expected to mail or courier the complete dump of the pictures of the trek which we will use in the report.

4. Video Documenter: We need  volunteers to take short 2 – 3 minute videos of the entire exploration, capturing small and interesting details. These videos must have a presentation by one volunteer speaking about the trail/place in brief while the other volunteer can video shoot the landscape along the person.

Register for the Trek:

Gorakhgad – 13 July 2013

Naneghat – 20 July 2013

Kalsubhai – 27th July 2013

Note: The explorations are on cost sharing basis between the whole group (Rs 500 to Rs 600/- per person approximately)
