Want to volunteer for a Management Game in the Himalayas with IIM?

This October, Indiahikes is again organising the Himalayan Mountain Challenge for the students of IIM (7th year). Every year, final year students of IIM Indore gather in the Himalayas to challenge each other in a strategy game. The game involves not only trekking but also strategy, planning, endurance and guts.

Volunteers are required to help run the mountain challenge. They not only get to engage with the brightest minds in the country but also get to trek in some of the prettiest locations in India. Trek locations are Kedarkantha, Bedni Bugyal, and Dayara Bugyal  in Uttarakhand.

  • Break any of the discipline or safety protocols
  • Be late or casual about punctuality
  • Prescribe medication to students or yourself without consulting the Trek Leader

11. Will I have to lead the trek during the programme?

All slopes will have Indiahikes Trek Leaders and guides, who will guide students and volunteers. However, you will be responsible for keeping track of the students assigned to you and motivating them through the trek each day. You will have to ensure that you’re never too far away from your team.

12. How many students will be participating in the programme?

There will be roughly 275 students participating in the programme.

13. Is there any pre-work to be done before the programme?

There are two things that you would need to do before you arrive for the programme –

  1. Work on your fitness – You have to be very fit as a volunteer. You will not only be trekking in high altitudes, but will also have responsibilities at the campsite before and after the trek. Doing all of this is possible only if you are physically fit.
  2. Go through the pre-read that we will share with you before you arrive in Rishikesh. This will give you an idea of the activities that you will be conducting for students during the programme.

  1. Is the 25 years of age criteria mandatory? I am through all the other mentioned criteria except for the age. And i’m really interested to volunteer!

        1. Most of IIM students will be above 22 years of age. So it makes more sense to have volunteers above 25 years of age to help manage the program better. Perhaps you can apply after 2 years 🙂

  2. Hi, I am introvert when it comes to amusement activities, and would not interested in addressing people etc. Is there any role which more involved in leading the people for trek, administration activities for camp setup etc?

    1. Hello Tejas
Volunteering would mean you will have to be able to communicate well and freely so with the IIM students. There will be lots of information to convey and I doubt someone who doesn’t like addressing people would fit the bill.

  3. Hello Indiahikes!

The treks that you have mentioned in this programme from 8th to 15th Oct – Kedarkantha, Bedni & Dayara, these dates are not available on there respective pages.
Is this a special batch you will run for this programme specifically and how will the students be selected ?

    1. Yes, the IIM program is completely separate from our other running treks open to everyone.
The students of IIM have this as a part of their course so no selection for them. We are only selecting volunteers for the program.

  4. Hi Team

I guess we would be allocated any of the listed three I guess. Would we also do the summit with the fellow trekkers.
