Why Valley of Flowers is Uttarakhand’s Most Popular Trek

Valley of Flowers is Uttarakhand’s most popular trek. It is also one of the famous treks we run. It journeys on an old and well-established trail with more than 498+ flowering plants. Valley of Flowers trek also lists as one of UNESCO‘s heritage sites and comes under the Nanda Devi National Reserve.

Moreover, this is also the only trek in Uttarakhand you can do during the peak monsoon. Monsoon changes the flowering pattern of the valley. But there’s much more to the trek!

In this episode, Swathi Chatrapathy sits with Indiahikes co-founder Sandhya UC to talk about what makes this trek so popular.

  1. I’m really enjoying your videos. Next year my husband and I want to do a trek in Nepal. I’m a pretty fit 61 year old and am not sure which treck to do. I was thinking Annapurna but after watching some of your videos I’m no longer sure. I’d appreciate your thought please.

    1. The ABC trek is quite a long and exhausting one. If you have done difficult treks before, go ahead and sign up for it. But you will really have to work on your stamina before that. In Nepal this would perhaps be your best option. If not this, then you can do a slightly easier trek in India. 🙂

  2. We are family of 4x Adults and wish to take on the Valley of flowers track in Uttarakhand in next year in May or June 2018.
Please confirm and help with track details ..

  3. Hi,
I have never done any trekking before, this will be my first one. I am 26 years old, 5’4 inch, 46 kg weight. I wish to take on the Valley of flowers track in Uttarakhand in in May or June 2018. I’d appreciate your thought regarding this.

    1. Hi Nitisha,
Valley of flowers is a good trek for beginners. Make sure you prepare well and get fit for the trek.
However, May-June is not the right season to go to Valley of Flowers. The flowers, for which the place is known, blossom after monsoon. So consider going in July or August if you are flexible with the dates.
If you want an alternate trek in June, you can consider Bhrigu lake. This is also great for a first time trekker.

  4. Hi, I am planning a trek to valley of flowers in the first week of August. I have my 9 year old daughter with me. Will the Hemkund Sahib trek be too difficult for a child?

  5. It has been a dream of mine to visit Uttarakhand and explore all the beautiful places it beholds. Your article has urged me to go on to another trip and I will definitely visit this place with my friends and family.
