Star Trails Tutorial, DSLR – Point-and-Shoot may also work here if you are able to capture stars with it, but a DSLR gives you much more freedom in terms of shutter speed, aperture, ISO etc as compared to point-and-shoot which comes with preset modes. A tripod is a must because you would be required to overlap multiple images.
