We have an important update on the Valley of Flowers and Himachal treks, based on the latest government advisory and ground reports.

For August 11th groups, the trek route is closed. Teams are currently stationed in Rishikesh, with accommodation and food fully arranged. Reroute options are actively being explored.

For August 12th and 13th groups, trekkers will be redirected to an alternate trek in Himachal.

For August 14th and 15th groups, plans hinge on the route reopening. If it opens, the trek will proceed as scheduled. If not, these teams will also move to Himachal.

A roadblock near Karnaprayag has been reported. Clearance is expected within the hour. Our teams remain in constant contact with trekkers currently held up there.

Refunds & Vouchers:
Trekkers who choose not to switch to another trek will receive trek vouchers. Those who have opted for the Indiahikes Shield and prefer a refund will receive the full amount.

Hampta Pass, Chandrakhani Pass, Bhrigu Lake: The Mandi–Kullu National Highway is open. All Manali slope treks are running on schedule.

We are tracking the situation closely and will share the next update the moment there is a change. Traffic remains slow in some stretches — trekkers are advised to keep buffer hours in hand while travelling.

Latest Weather Update - 11th August 2025 | Situation Report: Valley of Flowers and Himachal Treks

July 10th, 2024, 3:00 p.m.: Until 11th July, no trekkers will be permitted to go on the Tarsar Marsar, Nafran Valley, and Bodpathri treks.

The District Administration of Pahalgam has restricted trekking in the region. The Budgam district has also retracted permissions to trek in the area. The government seems to have taken this call as a safety measure in light of the current unrest in J&K.

Trekkers who are already on their way to Srinagar or in the base camp are being diverted to other treks in J&K, which are running smoothly.

Four of our treks in J&K are permitted to run as scheduled: Kashmir Great Lakes, Pir Panjal Lakes, Warwan Valley and Tulian Lake.

We are continuously monitoring the developments. Please keep a tab on our website. We will update you as the situation changes.

Permissions temporarily retracted for 3 treks in Jammu & Kashmir due to unrest in the region 

Landslides cleared on the way to Valley of Flowers. Traffic now running smoothly. 

July 15th, 3:00 p.m.: In a wave of good news for trekkers, landslides have been cleared from the NH7 route from Rishikesh to Valley of Flowers. 

The major landslide that occurred on July 10th took a long time to clear because of the size of the boulders. Smaller walking routes were established by Saturday, but it took a while to clear the road. As of today, the landslide debris has been cleared and traffic is moving smoothly. 

If you have an upcoming trek to Valley of Flowers, please keep in mind that this highway is prone to landslides. They are regular occurrences that come with the monsoon. These landslides are usually cleared off within a day, but they may cause long delays in your travel. 

In case of such delays, we make small shifts in your itinerary. We accommodate most of the itinerary shifts within your travel plan, but in case of any major delays, it’s best to have a buffer day in your travel plan. So please plan your travel accordingly.

Pipalkoti landslide cleared. Landslide near Joshimath taking time.

Uttarakhand, July 11th 2024, 10:30 am: As per our latest reports one of the minor landslides on the NH7 highway between Rishikesh and Badrinath has been cleared. 

But the landslide that struck the day before yesterday, approximately 3 km before Joshimath is yet to be cleared. Because of the size of the fallen boulders, the authorities are finding it challenging to clear the area. 

A small walking trail across the landslide zone has been established to allow trekkers and yatris to cross on foot. 

However, this could also get closed to allow uninterrupted repair work. In such a case, trekkers and yatris will be taking a 3 km route through the forests above the landslide zone. 

The Indiahikes local team is stationed at the zone to receive trekkers who are incoming and also to support trekkers who are heading back from the trek. 

We expect the landslide to be cleared by the time the next team travels towards the basecamp, on July 13th.

Second minor landslide occurs on Valley of Flowers route at Pipalkoti

Pipalkoti, Uttarakhand, July 10th 2024, 2.41 pm: There's been another minor landslide at Pipalkoti on the NH7 route. 

The good thing is that as fast as landslides happen, they are cleared off as quickly. This particular one is expected to be cleared in the next 2 hours. 

If it is not cleared for any reason, the trekking group departing on July 10th will stay at Pipalkoti for the night and carry on with the trek tomorrow. 

There are no issues on the actual Valley of Flowers trail. The route is clear and open to trek.

Landslide on NH7 Temporarily Disrupts Travel to Valley of Flowers Trek

Joshimath, Uttarakhand, July 10th 2024, 11.36 am: A landslide occurred earlier today on NH7, approximately 3 kilometers before Joshimath. This route is used by trekkers traveling from Rishikesh to Karchi, the basecamp for Indiahikes' Valley of Flowers trek. It is also the national highway leading to Badrinath.

Authorities immediately initiated efforts to clear the landslide zone. However, the scale of the landslide may cause delays.

Here are updates from our current groups: 

Trekkers departing July 9th were stationed at a hotel 3-4 km from the landslide zone last night. They will take a 3-kilometer detour on foot to Dhak, from where they will stay for the night and carry on with the trek tomorrow.

Trekkers departing on July 10th, will either (a) carry on to the basecamp if the landslide is cleared OR (b) Stay at the designated hotel and carry on to Dhak tomorrow.

If you’re headed to Valley of Flowers, it’s best to include a buffer day in your travel plan, to account for any such disruptions.

Joshimath, Uttarakhand, July 10, 2024: A landslide occurred earlier today on NH7, approximately 3 kilometers before Joshimath.

Landslides in Uttarakhand temporarily disrupt travel to the Valley of Flowers Trek

Following a cloudburst in Sikkim, the Teesta river has flooded multiple regions in Sikkim. This has affected trekkers headed to Goechala, who were forced to take a diversion to reach the basecamp. The trekking trail, however, is completely safe from the floods.

“The flash floods disrupted the route going via Malli between Siliguri and Joerethang. But there is an alternate route—via Darjeeling—that connects Siliguri to Jorethang. Our transport coordinator has confirmed that it is possible to reach Yuksom through this route,” shares Slope Manager Gourab Nani.

“This detour adds approximately 30 km to their journey, and it will take them about 1.5 hours more to reach Yuksom. But it’s a good alternative to reach Yuksom,” shares Caroline Mathew, Experience Coordinator for Goechala and Sandakphu-Phalut treks.

Government authorities are working round-the-clock to repair the damage caused by the flash-floods. But it may take a few days to repair the route via Malli. Till then, our trekkers will continue to take the route via Darjeeling to reach Yuksom.

The first group of Goechala is preparing to reach Yuskom tomorrow. We’ll post more updates about the upcoming group right here.

Flash-floods in Sikkim: Goechala trekkers will take detour to reach basecamp

A 100 m section of road at Nigulsari in Uttarakhand collapsed due to a landslide. This section lies on the route to Shimla which is taken by both Rupin Pass and Buran Ghati trekkers. 

The restoration work is in progress, and the Nisulgaru patch is likely to be rebuilt in the next few days. The local authorities are keeping a close eye on the progress, as this is a busy route.

If not re-built in time, this would affect the return travel for Buran Ghati and Rupin Pass trekkers who are scheduled to return on this route by next week.

Drive to Janglik for Buran Ghati trekkers

"Road condition from Rohru to Janglik is good except for one patch close to Janglik where the bridge was washed away by the Sundru stream (which later merges with Pabbar river). A temporary bridge is set up to cross the stream but mules or vehicles cannot cross the stream using this bridge," shares Nishant Kumar, Trek Leader at Indiahikes who is setting up the base for the Buran Ghati trek. 

As a result, Buran Ghati trekkers may need to trek 1.78 km to reach the base camp Janglik.

Road collapsing at Nigulsari affects return travel of Buran Ghati and Rupin Pass trekkers

This is an important update for trekkers scheduled to start their trek from Manali. 

Due to heavy rainfall, the repair-work on roads from Mandi to Manali has halted. The area is also experiencing fresh landslides. In such a situation, travelling to Manali is difficult. So we won’t be running our treks--Hampta Pass, Bhrigu Lake, Beas Kund and Chandrakhani Pass--from Manali till August 28th. 

This unfortunate turn of events is worrying. Many trekkers who are scheduled to start their trek from Manali in the first week of September are hesitating to start their travel, and understandably so. 

“For trekkers who are unsure about travelling to Manali after August 28th, we have opened a new group to the Tarsar Marsar trek in Jammu and Kashmir. This group starts on September 3rd from Srinagar,” Nandana shares. 

The Tarsar Marsar trek is experiencing good weather this season. 

“Out of 16 groups, 14 were able to do the entire trek. Just two groups were affected by the bad weather. Apart from that, the entire season has been seamlessly on track,” shares Debadrita Ghosh, Experience Coordinator for the Tarsar Marsar trek.

IMPORTANT UPDATE: Treks from Manali suspended until August 28th. Alternate trek opened to Tarsar Marsar in Kashmir

Trekkers from the August 13th group got stuck at Pipalkoti due to a landslide between Joshimath and Pulna. The road is yet to be cleared. So the trekkers are staying put at Pipalkoti. 

“All trekkers are safe. They will be celebrating Independence Day today at the Army Check Post at Pipalkoti,” updates Tilak Rawat, Experience Coordinator for the Valley of Flowers trek. 

Updates from other groups are as follows:

Aug 10: The team has returned to Dhak safely after completing the Valley of Flowers-Hemkund Sahib trek. 

Aug 11: After completing the trek to Hemkund Sahib, now the team is at Pulna. 

Aug 12: Trekked to Hemkund Sahib and is now at Ghangria. 

Aug 13: Team is at Pipalkoti, waiting for the road to open up. 

Aug 15: The team is waiting for the road to clear to start their journey from Rishikesh. 

Uttarakhand is experiencing a network outage. But our teams are sending in updates as and when possible. We’ll keep posting all relevant updates here.

The road from Joshimath to Pulna is still blocked. Valley of Flowers trekkers stay put at Pipalkoti.

Due to heavy rains in Uttarakhand, a few groups to the Valley of Flowers trek are unable to reach the basecamp at Karchhi on time. Landslides from Rishikesh to Karchhi have blocked roads, but they're being cleared up continuously. Trekkers who are already on the trek are safe and carrying on as scheduled. 

Here is a group-wise update of all groups on the Valley of Flowers trek:

Aug 14: Stuck at Rishikesh at roads are blocked due to landslides. 

Aug 13: Stuck at Pipalkoti, on the way from Rishikesh to Dhak. 

Aug 12: Trekking from Ghangria to Hemkund Sahib instead of Valley of Flowers. 

Aug 11: Trekking from Ghangria to Hemkund Sahib as per schedule

Aug 10: May start traveling from Pulna to Govindghat and then to Dhak. No roadblocks on this route. 

Certain mobile network providers are getting jammed in Uttarakhand due to bad weather. But our team is sending in timely updates from the Valley of Flowers trek. And they’ve updated to say that all trekkers are safe.

Travel to Valley of Flowers basecamp delayed due to heavy rainfall in Uttarakhand

The West Bengal Government has prohibited entry into Singalila National Park with immediate effect.

This is in reaction to the rising Covid infections.

This means our Sandakphu trek stands suspended with immediate effect. This prohibition may last for the next 2 to 3 weeks or longer. This is why we have suspended all our groups to Sandakphu until January 24th. 

If there are any developments regarding this, we will inform you immediately. 

But as of now, all groups heading to Sandakphu until January 24th are advised to cancel their travel plans immediately.

Knowing that you have an upcoming trek and you made all the preparations, we are giving you a 100% voucher of the trek fee you paid. 

Once the crisis has blown over, then you could think of doing a trek. Given the silver lining of symptoms of Omicron being mild, I see us tiding over this crisis within two months. More than anything, a promise of a Himalayan trek in future will keep you going through these tough times. 

This special Covid voucher is transferable to friends and family members (our regular vouchers are not).

Sandakphu Trek suspended until January 24th Due to Omicron

We have an update about the Dehradun Railway station which may affect your travel plans.

Due to maintenance and extension of the railway platforms, the station is going to be shut for three months from the 10th of November.

This means that no train will be stopping at Dehradun — this includes the Jan Shatabdi Express, Mussoorie Express and Nanda Devi Express.

How can you go about your travel to Dehradun?

Option 1: Get off at the Haridwar Station and take a bus to Dehradun

Trains scheduled to stop at Dehradun will stop at Haridwar. This is the station before the Dehradun station. You could get off at Haridwar and take a bus to Dehradun. The Haridwar bus station is just across the road from the railway station. Buses ply once every hour. If you miss the bus, you can take a shared cab. The journey is around 2 hours long.

The same holds true for your return travel. Take the trains from Haridwar. To get to Haridwar, take the local bus or share a taxi from Dehradun bus station. 

Pros: This will work for you if you have already booked your train ticket. You will not have to cancel anything. You can just get off at the previous station.

Cons: The bus journey from Haridwar to Dehradun will take at least 2 hours.

Option 2: Get off at Roorkee and take a vehicle to Dehradun

Roorkee is a stop before Haridwar, but the road journey from here to Dehradun is much faster because the roads are better, with lesser traffic. 

From the station, walk 10 mins to the highway and take a bus to Dehradun. You will get buses are 15 min intervals, both private and state transport buses. The UPSRTC bus costs Rs 210 from Roorkee to Dehradun.

It will take you an hour to reach Dehradun. This route is faster and with less traffic. 

Option 3: Cancel your train ticket to Dehradun and book a bus to Dehradun

If you have already booked your train ticket, you could cancel it right away and book a bus to Dehradun instead. The cancellation charges are small on IRCTC. If you haven’t yet booked your travel, directly book a bus from Delhi / nearby cities to Dehradun.

Pros: In terms of cost, cancelling your ticket and taking a direct bus to Dehradun will work out cheaper than keeping your ticket to Dehradun, and taking a bus from Haridwar.

Our recommendation: Go for Option 3. It will save you a lot of time and hassle. Also, try reaching Dehradun a day before your drive to the base camp. You’ll get much-required rest before the trek.

If you’re trekking with Indiahikes, please note these changes:

1. This note is relevant to trekkers going to Kedarkantha, Har Ki Dun, Dayara Bugyal, Mukta Top, Nag Tibba, Deoban Weekend Trek and Phulara Ridge.

2. Your pickup point will now be Dehradun bus station at 7 am on Day 1, and not the Dehradun Railway Station. This would mean, you will have to book a direct bus to Dehradun to reach on time.

3. For your return travel, your drop off will be on the last day of your trek at Dehradun bus station between 6 pm and 7 pm. You can take a bus to Haridwar and take the same train you’re scheduled to go on (if it’s Mussoorie Express / Nanda Devi Express). Or you could cancel your train ticket and book a bus from Dehradun.

4. If you are getting to Dehradun a day prior to trek date, book a hotel near the bus station.

5. If you have already booked a hotel near the railway station, take a share auto (called Vikram) from the railway station to the bus stop. It costs Rs. 30 per person. Keep at least 30 minutes for this journey.

Dehradun Railway Station Closed For 3 Months Starting November 10th

We have an update from the Pin Bhaba Pass trail. On Friday, August 9th, there was a landslide just above the Phutsirang campsite, blocking the trail towards the pass. It also gave rise to continuous rockfall, which we’re still seeing on the trail.

In this post we have the latest updates from the trail and also the future course of action for trekkers headed here.

Our recce team, which went to check if the pass was accessible, returned yesterday with rather grim news.

Here is what senior Trek Leader Devang Thapliyal reports from the recce:

The impact of the landslide is greater than anticipated

– The terrain is in flux and minor rockfalls are still ongoing.

These factors have made the trek to the pass riskier and beyond the control of safety protocols.

Our recce team estimates that it will take at least 15 days for the land to stabilise.

Note: The teams leaving on August 17 and 19 will not be able to cross the Pin Bhaba pass.

Current batches will go up to Phutsirang, return to Khara and explore the Tiya Valley. They will be returning to Kafnu after exploration. The number of days of trek will remain as is. The only difference is that trekkers will have to change the return to Shimla instead of Manali.

The good part of this solution is that you get to trek in the extremely picturesque Kinnaur Valley. It is a loss that you cannot see the Spiti side, but even then, the first half of the trek is worth it. If it was up to us, it’s what we’d do. No alternate trek really matches up to this beauty.

You will also be exploring the Tiya Valley, which our recce team reports is extremely pretty! We would strongly recommend sticking to your trek plan and doing how much ever possible of Pin Bhaba Pass.

A Report On The Landslide Occurrence At Phutsirang

On Friday night, there was a roaring landslide on the Pin Bhaba Pass trail, right above the Phutsirang campsite. A glacier on the mountain above the campsite had split and was tumbling down in a barrage of big boulders, rocks and sludgy water. All of these were flowing directly into the campsite.

Our trekking teams were inside their tents when they heard a clapping thunder from above them. They were immediately evacuated from the campsite to higher, safer grounds.

No trekker was hurt during the incident, despite the incident occurring in the darkness of the night.

Trekkers were evacuated to safety within minutes

After the landslide, our teams shifted the dining tent and all other tents quickly to higher, safer ground, across the delta, on the other side.

All trekkers spent the night in the dining tent, cramped, but warm and safe.

They couldn’t cross the pass the next day. They returned to Kafnu, trekking 21 km, the same way they’d gone up.

A note from Mukta Joshi, our Trek Leader who played a crucial role in the safety of our trekkers at Phutsirang

“It took less than 15 minutes for the entire staff to shift 10 hillman tents, 1 kitchen tent (with ration) and a dining tent. On top of that, none of the trekkers lost even one piece of their belonging.

Nitesh’s [Another Trek Leader] presence made things easier as we divided the roles of taking care of trekkers and keeping an eye on the situation outside between ourselves. 

The most of important thing was trekkers’ cooperation in this situation. To see their trust in our safety was overwhelming. 

The entire team descended 21 km from Phutsirang to Kafnu the next day without cribbing complaining. Hats off to them as well. We had two kids of the age 11 and 13. After returning, their parents said, “the kids felt extremely safe that night and they could sleep, which made it easier for them to walk the next day”. They showed extreme bravery in such a terrifying situation. 

Overall, in the debriefing, it came to notice that everybody is carrying memories of adventure and beauty with them.”

Landslide At Pin Bhaba Pass Leaves Trail Blocked - Here's The Future Course Of Action

Two days ago, the Home Department of Jammu and Kashmir, issued a security advisory aimed at all tourists in the valley, suggesting that they cut down their stay and leave the state immediately. 

In light of the current situation, we are calling off all our Kashmir treks this year, 2019. 

This would mean the Kashmir Great Lakes, Tarsar Marsar and Warwan Valley treks. 

The past two days in the valley have been chaotic. Tourists are being evacuated from everywhere (Gulmarg, Sonamarg, Pahalgam, etc) to Srinagar or Jammu, and further out of the state. Numerous army vehicles are seen taking to the highways. Evacuations have been happening in the middle of the night. 

As disheartening as it is, we don’t believe things will come back to normal soon. Even though things look fairly calm in regions like Srinagar and Gulmarg, we will be following protocol.

Trekkers who have finished their treks and returned 

Trekkers to Kashmir Great Lakes, who left on 27th July and 28th July are back in Srinagar. Many of them have already boarded their flights back home. The rest are safely accommodated in Srinagar, waiting for their flights. 

The Tarsar Marsar team of August 1st have left Aru and will be reaching Srinagar soon. Those who have flight tickets will be flying out from Srinagar, and those who have opted to take the road to Jammu will be doing so. 

Trekkers who are currently on their treks 

The team that left to Kashmir Great Lakes on 29th July is returning today. “We are being escorted by soldiers of the Indian army. They have promised to take us safely to Srinagar,” says Devang Thapliyal, one of our Senior most Trek Leaders, who is with the team right now. They will reach Srinagar late in the afternoon. 

The team that left to Kashmir Great Lakes on 1st Aug is returning from an incomplete trek (from Nichnai Pass). They are expected to reach Sonamarg at 6 pm and further to Srinagar by 10 pm.

All trekkers on the slopes are safe. Our Trek Leaders and Operations teams are with them constantly. Our Trek Coordinators are in constant touch with the teams. So rest assured that they are safe.

All tourists expected to leave the Valley by 7th August 

The government has sent instructions that all tourists must leave the Valley before 7th. So anyone with later tickets, will have to reschedule their flights to leave earlier from the valley.

Most airlines have been refunding cancelled flight tickets so far. We believe and hope they will continue to do so under pressure from the government. 

What happens to trekkers who have signed up for future Kashmir Treks

We have a heavy heart saying this, but we will not be running any more Kashmir treks this year. We do not believe the situation will return to normal any time soon. 

So starting August 4th, we are calling off all our treks in Kashmir, all the way till the end of September.

Being trekkers ourselves, we understand the heart-break of not being able to trek after so much preparation. And we don’t want that to happen to any of you. 

We are opening special dates to three treks to accommodate Kashmir trekkers — Pin Bhaba Pass, Hampta Pass and Brahmatal.

This has not come easy, with most of our teams and equipment being in Kashmir. But we are doing everything we can to make a smooth transition for trekkers from Kashmir to Himachal and Uttarakhand treks. 

Special dates to Pin Bhaba Pass (Suitable for KGL trekkers)

Pin Bhaba Pass is one of our tougher treks, at par with Kashmir Great Lakes. It is perhaps one of the only treks that can compare to the drama and colours of Kashmir Great Lakes. From the lush greenery of Kinnaur, it climbs up to 16,105 ft, cuts across the Pin Bhaba Pass and enters the stark deserts of Spiti. 

 If you had signed up and prepared for Kashmir Great Lakes, this trek is a great alternative.

Special dates to Hampta Pass (Suitable for Tarsar Marsar trekkers)

Hampta Pass is a trek that needs no introduction. It is one of our most popular treks in Himachal and not without reason. It crosses over from the greenery of Kullu to the dramatic cliffs of Lahaul.
