How we celebrated Durga Puja at Sandakphu

Every Bengali waits all year for Puja holidays in October. This year Asmita decided to do something different. Along with her family she set out to do the Sandakphu trek. Trekking the undulating stretch of Sandakphu, listening to stories from other trekkers, navigating the Singalila National Park- what an unconventional Puja holiday they had!

 

Puja holidays in Kolkata are too mainstream, hot and crowded. So this holiday week, I decided to go for a trek to Sandakphu with my family. Sandakphu is the tallest peak on the West Bengal- Nepal border from where the five highest peaks of the world including Mt. Everest can be seen. Off the radar for a week, we experienced the full might of nature adapting to its ways and got bowled over by its raw and ferocious beauty.
