September in the mountains is a month where seasons change. Our monsoon treks come to an end, and a colourful autumn season begins. Trekkers can see vivid hues of bright reds, oranges, and browns, punctuated by lively green grass. It is also the time when you get the best mountain views, and clear visibility in the skies. Our trek photographers have made full use of this.

We received over 400 entries for the Trek Photographer of the Month – September 2019. Each picture had its own story to tell. From stunning night shots of the Milky Way overlooking campsites, to surreal pass pictures, this month’s entries made us go weak in the knees.

Here are the winners of the Trek Photographer of the Month September 2019 and the Trekker’s Choice Award Winner:

First Place

Gaumukh Tapovan Trek – Chandana Puttalingiah – ‘Natures Grandest Backdrop’

This picture is an absolute stunner from Chandana! We have never seen Mt.Shivling lit up so beautifully. We truly appreciate the patience and the skill involved in capturing this image.  The hues of orange in the sky and the velvety red moss on the ground complement each other beautifully. A truly one of a kind picture!

Second Place

Rupin Pass Trek – Chowdegowda M S – ‘Full screen recommended’

Chowdegowda has planned and executed this photograph beautifully. Taking the photograph in a manner that seems to tell an unfinished story. The dog overlooking the pass, adds a great perspective in terms of size to this larger than life pass. The framing too is excellent. There is a fine balance between the grass in the foreground, the snow-capped mountains, and the fading out sky.

Third Place

Hampta Pass Trek – Neha Chauhan ‘Shadow play by the clouds at Chandratal’

This is one of the rarest angles of the Chandratal Lake we have ever seen. The light falling on the mountains and the lake, a slight shimmer on the water, and the trekkers in the distance make this a near-perfect picture. It appears as though the lake is floating into this picture, which adds a whole new perspective to it.

The winner of the Trekker’s Choice Award

Buran Ghati Trek – Ankit Banerjee – ‘Arsh’

Congratulations to all our winners!
