The contest results are out !  The top three winning photos are below. Our Judge shares with you why the pictures turned up winners. Post your comments below.

First Prize: Raghavendra

L S Prasath shares “This photograph captures the very essence of high altitude trekking and the frozen Himalayan landscape in winter! Such a wonderful landscape with half frozen lake. Leading lines are used very cleverly to create a strong composition! The leading lines from the foreground lead the attention towards the lonely trekker who is enjoying the landscape. Also the placement of the trekker in the frame is very strong. Background is a beautiful wall of snow mountains trapping and retaining the attention within the frame. Also the lines from the top of the mountains leads down towards the trekker, bringing the attention back to the human element and help associate with their emotion. Depth and exposure are handled very well. Overall stands FIRST in this contest.”

Second Prize: Rahul

“SECOND prize goes to Rahul for carving out a beautiful photograph of the rugged landscape. Foreground is a reflection of the snow capped mountains in the background. It is so clear and crisp that it immediately grabs the viewer’s attention and creates a strong foreground interest, which is very important for a landscape photograph. Piece of rock on the lower right helps in defining the depth for this shot. Mid ground shows the rugged landscape and the slow transition to snow capped peaks in the background. Blue sky is a definite plus. Exposure is balanced well to retain the details on the snow. Overall a good landscape photograph, portraying the environment very well”. says L S Prasath.

Third Prize: Sandipan

L S Prasath says “A good long exposure photograph. It clearly shows the primitive yet contained life the trekkers go through in the mountains. Good choice of exposure to have both the tents, the background snow peaks and stars in good focus. And also the detailing of stars in the sky is very good. It was definitely a good idea to shoot during the blue hour and add another tinge of color to the sky instead of a dark upper frame. Yellow of the tents and blue of the sky are going well together. Overall stands THIRD in this contest”.
