At Indiahikes, we are constantly looking to make sure that our Green Trails initiative goes forward. The scale of the problem is huge and we need dedicated projects for each problem area.  We are looking for interns with specialised skills to take these projects forward. You can find the ongoing Green Trails Projects here:

Permanent magnet generator

Project description: Currently, the usage of renewable energy on our treks is minimal to none.  However, there is always a need for light and heat on our treks.  With plenty of natural resources available, we can utilize them to harness energy to provide these requirements.  Running streams and blowing wind are plenty at these treks.  To utilize them to generate power, we require a well-designed generator.

After some research, we have identified a design.  We are currently looking for an intern who would like to help customize the design based on requirements, build and test a prototype.

Prerequisite: Must have previous experience in building prototypes

Project duration: 30-45 days

Project location: Bangalore

Stipend: Rs. 10,000/- (stipend) + 8000 (for food, travel and stay for interns coming from outside Bangalore) per month.

Plastic shredder

Project description: Finding a way to handle the waste is one of the major hiccups of bringing a full-scale sustainable waste management solution to our mountains.  One way to handle the collected waste is to upcycle the waste at source.  Most of the scale-able ideas to upcycle waste involves shredding the plastic to smaller pieces.  This is manually laborious and impractical if we want to scale up.

To address this, we would like to build a plastic shredder that is capable of shredding soft plastics.

Bottle brick projects

Project description:   Bottle bricks is an easy scale-able way to handle the non-recyclable waste at source.  Bottle bricks work like normal bricks and can be used as a basic construction material.  Bottle bricks are plastic bottles stuffed with non-recyclable waste compactly until the brick cannot be compressed anymore.  The scope of the bottle bricks is endless.  It can be used to create multiple infrastructure projects.  We are looking for interns who can take this project forward at various villages along our treks.

Prerequisite: Can talk fluently in Hindi

Project duration: 30-45 days

Project location: Villages along our treks

Stipend: Rs. 2,500/- per week.  Food and accommodation will be provided by us.  The cost of reaching the base camp and getting back is on the intern.

Write to me ( lakshmi@indiahikes.com) for application with your resume and cover letter.
