We took a team of Saks employees on a trek to Bidarakatte

Last weekend we took 7 Saks team members on a day trek to Bidakrakatte near Ramanagra.
Saks India is a fundamental part of Saks, the premier digital platform for luxury fashion in
Mr Shishir, who’s a senior manager at Saks wanted to go for an outing with his team for a long time. He realised that this opportunity can be used to bring the team together using the outdoors as a medium. That’s how he got to know about Indiahikes.
Bharath Ramesh (@bharatramesh ), who’s part of the content team at Indiahikes led this trek. Here’s what he had to share.
“I was really excited to lead this team to a trek we recently explored.
The Bidarakatte trek is a fairly easy trek as compared to the other day treks around Bangalore.
The initial section of the trek is mostly flat and after a point, there’s a rock to climb around which there’s a pond. As you continue the climb you reach a ruined fort which marks the end of this trek.
Keeping in mind the main objective which was to come together as a stronger team we planned out some activities for them on the trek.
The outdoorsy environment on the trek really helped them to open up.
In one of the activities, they were required to communicate with each other being blindfolded. I think after that activity the group dynamics changed quite a bit. They were more open in talking to each other and they were also enjoying the trek a lot more.
We also had our postcard ritual at the summit. It was something new for many of them and they penned down their learnings from the whole experience.”
“At the end of the trek, when we sat down to reflect the team realized the importance of healthy communication and active listening in working collaboratively and growing as a strong team.
They also enjoyed doing a trek together and acknowledged how much of an impact can outdoors have on them as individuals and as a team”. Adds Bharath.
We’re really happy to see corporate teams like SAKS coming outdoors on a trek for team-building offsites! The learnings and experience gathered will go a long way for them. :)
