The Warwan Valley is the greatest adventure in Kashmir. Our exploration team couldn’t stop gushing about this trek for months. We, however, will let the pictures do the talking.

Panikher, the start of the trek. Panikher is an oasis in the deserts of Ladakh. There are endless walks under willow trees that I could take at Panikher. Just to be in this splendid oasis I would like to visit Panikher again.

Crossing the multiple streams of Denora. By the time we had crossed all of them our feet were so numb that I couldn’t walk. None of us could walk for a long time! We have never experienced water this cold!

Glacial pool on top of the moraines near the foot of the Kalapari mountain. Small icebergs float in this pool.

Walking on the glacier that tumbles down in seracs from the mountain above us.

Walking along the length of the Bracken glacier. We had to walk almost 2 kms along this icy wonder until its snout, where it fell over in moraines. The Warwan river emerges from beneath the glacier.

One of the many streams that you cross during the day. The trick is how not to get your boots wet!

The day’s trek is always to climb a hillock which follows a flat grassland. Beyond the hillock is almost always another grassland. These grasslands are the highlights of the days trek.

Sukhnai Village. It is almost a replica of the Gaulish village of Asterix. Willow trees jut out between houses. Mud baked lanes crisscross the village. Flower beds line the hills around the houses. To top it, a clear stream runs through the village!

The many barns on the way. It takes time to take in such wondrous beauty. The landscape is unique to this part of Kashmir. For moments, I didn’t think I was in India.
