If you’re planning to do the Bhrigu Lake trek, you’re in for a quick but stunning high-altitude experience. This is one of those rare treks that gives you a taste of alpine meadows and a glacial lake — all in just four days.

But being a trek that climbs to around 14,009 ft, timing it right is key.

Watch this quick video to get a good overview of the trek. But don’t stop there — the article dives much deeper. I’d definitely recommend giving it a read. Towards the end, you’ll also find answers to some of the most commonly asked questions about the trek

When Is the Best Time to Do the Bhrigu Lake Trek?

The ideal time to do the Bhrigu Lake trek is from mid-June to the end of September. You might even be able to stretch it into the first week of October if the weather holds up.

But the best time really depends on what you want to see — snow or greenery.

1. For Snow and a Frozen Lake, Go in June

If you want to experience snow-covered meadows and maybe even catch the lake while it’s partially or fully frozen, you should plan your trek for mid to late June.

During this time, the trail still holds onto the last of the winter snow, especially in the higher sections. It’s a magical time to walk through white-dusted grasslands and see how the lake slowly begins to thaw.

But remember — the snow also makes the trail a bit more challenging. You’ll need better shoes, some trekking experience, and an extra layer or two.

2. For Meadows, Flowers, and Clear Views, Trek Between July and September

If you’re dreaming of walking across endless green meadows, July to September is your window.

These months transform the Bhrigu Lake trail into a vibrant carpet of grass and flowers. Especially in August and early September, you’ll see wildflowers blooming across the hillsides — it's one of the most beautiful times to be out there.

You’ll also get clearer skies, better views of surrounding Himalayan peaks, and a calm, reflective Bhrigu Lake waiting for you at the top.

Why You Should Avoid Trekking Before June or After September

Outside the June–September window, the trail either hasn’t opened yet or has become too snowy and risky. In May or early June, the snow is still too deep. After early October, winter sets in again, and the window closes quickly.

So to really make the most of the trek, stick to that mid-June to September timeframe.

Some Frequently Asked Questions about the trek:

1. What is the height of Bhrigu Lake?
Bhrigu Lake sits at an altitude of around 14,009 ft (4,269 m) above sea level. It’s one of the highest glacial lakes you can reach in just a 4-day trek.

2. What is the altitude gain during the Bhrigu Lake trek?
The trek starts at around 9,396 ft and climbs to 14,009 ft, giving you an altitude gain of nearly 4,650 ft over 2-3 days of ascent.

3. Can I do the Bhrigu Lake trek in May?
May is generally too early for the trek. The trail is often buried under deep snow, and the lake remains inaccessible. Wait until mid-June for the route to become trek-ready and safe.
