Important Update on Our Kashmir Treks in Light of Recent Terror Attacks
April 23rd, 2025: In light of the recent terror attacks in Pahalgam, we have suspended our Jammu & Kashmir treks until May 11th, 2025.
This includes two groups to Tulian Lake and one group to Brammah Valley.
While security concerns have occasionally surfaced in parts of J&K, we haven’t seen an attack this severe in over a decade of working there. We deeply mourn the loss of the tourists who were affected in this tragic incident, and our thoughts are with their families.
For us, safety is everything: of our trekkers, of our own team. Which is why we are monitoring the situation closely and taking swift action.
We’ve reached out personally to trekkers who were scheduled to trek before May 11th and offered them multiple options to ensure their plans are not entirely disrupted:
- They can shift to any of our existing treks in Uttarakhand or Himachal Pradesh, even if those groups are currently full. We are making space for them as a special exception.
- In case they do not shift to any other trek, they are eligible for a 100% voucher, valid for a year, to use on any Indiahikes trek.
- For trekkers who opted for the Indiahikes Shield, we are offering a full refund of the trek fee in case they choose not to shift to another trek.
What Does This Mean for Upcoming Treks in Kashmir?
At this moment, we have not suspended treks scheduled after May 11th. However, the situation in Kashmir continues to remain uncertain, and we are monitoring it closely.
With the Amarnath Yatra season approaching, there may be a significant tightening of security in the region, which could be good for trekkers too. On the other hand, there could be a complete shutdown of the region. It’s too early to say which way it will go.
Our next update will be shared by April 28th, where we will take a call on Kashmir treks scheduled beyond May 11th.
What Are the Possible Outcomes?
We want our trekkers to be prepared for every possible scenario. Here’s what could happen next:
- If conditions improve, all treks will proceed as scheduled.
- If conditions worsen, and we are forced to cancel your trek:
1. You will have the option to shift to any available trek in Uttarakhand or Himachal Pradesh.
2. In case you choose not to shift to another trek, you will receive a 100% trek voucher, valid for one year.
3. If you have the Indiahikes Shield, you’ll receive a 100% refund, unless you shift to another trek. - If you’d like to shift proactively, we are allowing rescheduling even within 30 days of the trek date — a special waiver from our usual policy. A 20% rescheduling fee will apply in this case. For future groups (beyond mid-May), our standard rescheduling policy will apply.
- If you choose to cancel now, our standard cancellation policy will apply.
Treks in Other Regions Remain Unaffected
Our treks in Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand are running safely and without any disruption. If you are considering a change as a precaution, these are excellent alternatives to consider.
What’s Next?
We are reviewing the situation on a day-to-day basis. Our next update will be shared by April 28th, where we will take a call on Kashmir treks scheduled beyond May 11th.
Until then, we ask our trekkers to wait and watch, and trust that we will act swiftly and transparently in your best interest.
We understand that these are uncertain times, especially when you’ve planned your travel and taken time off work. We are here to help you. If you have any questions or concerns, please reach out to us directly — our team will assist you personally.
